You would think when living in a country for a month and a half, I would have tried at least thirty ice cream places by now. Sadly, I couldn’t live up to my number one rule of vacation (trying the ice cream) in order to save my money for the numerous trips I wanted to take. If I have one regret with my time in Sevilla, it would be waiting until the last week and a half to try all the best ice cream places in Sevilla. One, because I would have liked to try more places, and two, because my stomach hates me.
As a baseline for my ice cream tastings, at every place on this list (except one because I forgot…oops!) I ordered dulce de leche. I’m currently obsessed with dulce de leche ice cream ever since I learned that it’s not actually caramel. When I was little, someone deceived me into believing that it was caramel, and 20 years later I have finally put two and two together that its sweetened milk. Makes sense as “dulce de leche” literally translates to “sweet milk.” Still mind blown.
In the spirit of Sevilla and Spain itself, I decided to give the best ice cream places a rating on ambiance and palatability based on bulls, or toros.
Disclaimers:
*I tend to never rate anything a 1 or a 5 (nothing is that awful and nothing is perfect – so take that into consideration).
*Second disclaimer: Heladerias are ice cream shops in Spain, although there is confusion on whether or not these places are truly ice cream or gelato. Although the two are made slightly differently, for consistency purposes, I will refer to it as ice cream in this blog.
Rayas
Recommended by my Spanish professor, Rayas is definitely up there on my favorite heladerias of all time. The place itself was nothing special, but the ice cream, oh man, the ice cream, was it delicious! Although the flavor could have been a teensy bit stronger, I don’t think I’ve ever had such creamy ice cream. And I mean really creamy. This place is definitely a must on your trip to Sevilla!

Los Valencianos
Established in 1946, this heladeria is rated #2 on Trip Advisor, and one can see why once the refreshing ice cream is melting in your mouth! There are many options that boast strong natural flavors making it difficult to choose! The shop also sells their homemade turron.

La Fiorentina
Located a little out of the way, La Fiorentina had a large range of options, including milkshakes, which can be quite hard to find here since they usually tend to just be chocolate milk. The ice cream is rich and flavorful, and the heladeria offers a cute and unique atmosphere. I had high hopes, but the ice cream didn’t have that wow factor that I had read about on countless reviews. Even so, it’s still worth a visit!

Chocolate y Limon
Located in one of my favorite spots in Sevilla, Barrio Santa Cruz, this quaint and picturesque shop offers some pastries, unique orange wines, and of course, ice cream. This is the place I forgot to get the dulce de leche, but the other two flavors I had (the brownie and Oreo cheesecake) were rich and creamy (just not as creamy as Rayas)!

Bolas
Bolas is also rated highly on TripAdvisor, so naturally I paid a visit. The ice cream is natural and flavorful, but, to me, seemed more towards the average side. The presentation also seemed lacking as the ice cream flaunted no decoration. With that said, it’s still tasty ice cream with plenty of flavors and you should give it a try yourself!

La Abuela
With at least twenty choices to choose from, La Abuela first attracted me due to the huge mounds of gelato piled extremely high. And when I say huge mounds, I mean HUGE. The best thing about this heladeria is the range of options. The ice cream was definitely yummy, but more of your average ice cream parlor. As far as the shop itself, it’s more of a walk up window; definitely don’t go here if you’re looking for a place to sit down in the air conditioning!

Amorino
Amorino is not a new gelato parlor for me, as I’ve tried it in a few other countries within Europe. Eating their gelato has become somewhat of a tradition for my mom and I; whenever there is a location where we are traveling, we must have some! Although I love this tradition, the place itself is a chain. It’s delicious and when ordered in a cone, is always given to you in the shape of a beautiful flower. However, it’s a tad pricey for the quantity given.
