Gondola Rides in Venice Are Not All They’re Made Out to Be

While Gondola rides may seem like the coolest thing to do while in Venice, you don’t get the bang for your buck. Prices rise after 7pm to 100 Euros, rather than 80 Euros. Tips on top of that! It doesn’t matter how many people go on the ride (max. capacity 6), the price stays static.

For that price, you are only getting a 25-minute gondola ride, which they claim to be 35 minutes. I suggest sitting on the gondola and taking a picture just to say you did it, but it’s not as exhilarating or important to do as you may think.

Be Wary of Water Taxis

Be very careful with who you plan your water taxi with and ask for extra charges that are not mentioned. Walking to the main square to catch a water taxi is always a cheaper option than being picked up in the side canals. It might also eliminate unnecessary stress when the tide is up and the boat can’t make it to you.

Be Cognizant of the Tide

The tides in Venice rise and fall about every six hours. Since the pathways are on sea level, some may be covered at high tide. Flooding happens daily, which not only causes pools of water in certain areas, but also problems with water taxis fitting under canal bridges. Once again, plan accordingly if you need one or you may have to catch another one somewhere else.

Bring Your Camera Everywhere

The photo opportunities in Venice are never-ending. Every corner, canal, and building is worth capturing. You never know when something cute may be right around the corner.

Buy a Cute Hat

Who wants to walk around Europe without a cute European hat!? No one!! And you don’t even know how wonderful they are until you experience it first hand. So get a hat.
